Seriously, one reason for this behavior is the signs around here that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right". Nobody wants to think that they are "Slower Traffic" so everyone tries to drive in the left lane. That makes people pass on the right. (Which should be illegal!) The solution is to change all of the signs to " Keep Right Except When Passing" (like the signs in Colorado). Then the slow lane will be the right, and the left lane is available for people to pass. I usually drive on I-5 at about 60-65 mph, and when I come up behind someone going slower I have a couple of choices: 1) Pass on left, provided there is a lane to the left. 2) Wait for him to pull over. (15 seconds) 3) Blink lights, honk to pass. (30 seconds) 4) Tailgate, Blink lights, honk horn, left directional on. (15 seconds) 5) Pass on right. You'd be ammazed (I am) at the number of times I have to pass someone on the right! A note on this behavior: If anyone approaches me from behind, I pull over and let him pass on the left, even if it takes a bit of effort. Pat Chewning
