I always put down the weather number. I also don't put down the correct SS number. Shoot, they don't have any right to ask for such information, but if you tell them that they get all upset. Incidentally, MC/VISA/AMEX don't require this. Only certain individual stores have adopted this practice. AND, if you're willing to *really* fuss you end up either getting thrown out or having the store clerk informed that "well, it's okay, but just this once." I recall Abbie Hoffman saying in "Steal This Book" that he put down R. Nixon's social security number. Hey, pick your favorite person and use theirs. It's easy enough to find out. I limit the amount of plastic I use too. Think of all of the people that allow you to phone in your card number for mailed merchandise. If I'm behind someone in line, see their number, rent a P.O.
