The first few times are a real bitch. You get one or two exits in about a mile of packed traffic (about four lanes, if my memory is correct). If you miss you're off the island. Going east(north according to the signs) you end up, I think, in the Bronx. The real nasty part is the other way, if you miss there (and I did my first time) you're in New Jersey and have to pay a damned toll to get back. That may not sound bad to most people, but out here in the NW we DON'T HAVE toll roads, and only a few toll bridges. It was quite a shock. And then there's Boston....
