Message-ID: <1894@rabbit.UUCP> Date: Thu, 1-Sep-83 17:54:14 EDT Article-I.D.: rabbit.1894 Posted: Thu Sep 1 17:54:14 1983 Date-Received: Fri, 2-Sep-83 21:30:40 EDT Organization: Bell Labs, Murray Hill Lines: 31 Any suggestions what the US reaction to this act (of war, by international law) should be. Should we all hide our heads and fail to notice, or should we act to support the noted South Korean "president", reportedly for life? On another tack, assuming that the US reacts, what would you suggest? Military action is obviously out of the question, it's both impossible (no way for US fighters to get there-incapable military again), and stupid. Diplomatic action? (Gee, we might kill detente! ) Ignore it completely, and assume that the benevolent USSR won't do it again, and that they are truly sorry? I don't think the whole story is out on this yet, I can't see any reason WHY the soviets would want to do something that would cause such an outcry. (Or do they think we'll all quake in our shoes? Maybe so, if the net is any indication.) Informed speculation welcome, knee-jerk decriers of the US government keep it down unless you have some FACTS to bring up. I'm just WAITING to hear why some of you think it's the US's fault. I just can't wait! :-] rabbit!jj
