San Diego, CS Dept Lines: 20 Back in high school (gawd, what a long time ago THAT was!) I had a friend who had evidently gotten on some long list of telephone solicitors. Not a day went by when he didn't get some kind of a call selling something. He found a used electronic police siren at the local police auction. After Bill connected it to the phone line, it seems that 100 watts of screaming siren on the line seemed to discourage sales calls. Its kinda stupid, and cruel to the poor little old ladies who do solicitations in order to keep the cat from going hungry, and you wouldn't really want to do that to someone, but doesn't just warm the cockles of your heart to dream about it!?!? P.S. The PhoneCo figured it out (about six months later, which may be record time for them) and had Bill disconnect it "or else". Sigh. -- Brian Kantor, UCSD. {philabs, ucbvax} !sdcsvax!brian sdcsvax!brian@nosc
