I smoked for 8 years, but gave it up earlier this year. This isn't meant to be a discourse on the merits of smoking/non-smoking. When I used to smoke, I would always put out the butt when someone hadd asked me to, or I would move elsewhere. Most of the time this worked for all concerned. Sometimes, the non-smoker would then keep up the tirade, make obsurd comments about the smoke following them, etc. So, I learned most non-smokers were sincere about their complaints, but some people were snots. Now that I don't smoke, I can be where others smoke, although I don't particularly enjoy it. If I did ask them to put out the flame (no pun intended, net), I'd hope they'd listen. If they didn't, they too would be snots. Before and now, I don't like smoke in my face when eating. It's disgusting and I will always comment about it. CT's law about smoking sections is a great idea. I guess what it boils down to is that people should be considerate. Non-smokers often act as holier-than-thou. Smokers often act like freedom means everything they want is theirs and to hell with the other guy. It's so easy to be considerate of others that I'm surprised that more of the world hasn't caught on. It actually takes more energy to cause the confrontation than to back down. --steve kramer -- --steve kramer {allegra,genrad,ihnp4,utzoo,philabs,uw-beaver}!linus!smk (UUCP) linus!smk@mitre-bedford (MIL)
