The statues stood there for centuries, always in the same position (as statues do). After about 400 years, God decided to reward the statues for their hardship (it's not easy staying in the same position for 400 years) by making them human for 30 minutes. As soon as the statues became human, they dove into the bushes, and came out 20 minutes later all flushed and panting. God told them, "You still have ten minutes, so take advantage of them." The male statue looked at the female statue and said, "let's do it again, only this time YOU hold the pidgeons and I'LL shit on them." Ugh.
