Build a VLSI uP chip. This chip should have as part of its instruction set: floating point arithmetic, multiply and divide (both integer and floating), virtual memory management instructions, kernel, supervisor, executive and user modes; it should be 32-bits internal and external, at least 200usec machine cycle time, all housed in a 40 pin DIP. Supply with this chip designs for all support chips including floating point accelerator, matrix multiplier, 256K static RAM chips and a bus arbitrater to handle multiprocessor tasking and message passing between processes. You do not need to produce chips for the latter, just the uP however you must prove the functional integrity of the entire system under conditions similar to a space shuttle lift-off. -Design restriction: this design must be competitive on the open market given present day production technologies. --------------------------------- Software Engineer --------------------------------- Inside your desk you'll find a listing of the DEC/VMS operating system in IBM 1710 machine code. Show what changes are necessary to convert this code into a UNIX Berkley 7 operating system. Prove that these fixes are bug free and run correctly. You should gain at least 150% efficiency in the new system. You should only spend 10 minutes on this question. ----------------------------------- Logic ----------------------------------- Given that A = B and that Public Chartered Accountants usually clip their toe nails before going to bed at night deduce through boolean logic that A != B; given that A, B and Wankel Rotary Engines are part of the universe of all things. Show all steps inbetween. At the end of this test it should be mentioned that a pair of 2 meter tall men in white coats will enter the room, fit you out with a coat that has sleeves that really love, and will take you away to a waiting room where you will receive the results of your test. We would appreciate your full cooperation in allowing these men to go about their buisness and would ask you to refraim especially from biting them on the anckles while they tighten up the strings to your arms.
