I have a version of modem796 that I use on a 7 bit port.  The only
changes that I made were to mask the parity bit everywhere data was
read in the file transfer mode.  (The terminal section already has
parity bit masking).  This does not give true 7 bit Even parity, but
it did allow protocol file transfers of ASCII text files. - Bob
