the fx80 also eats the first character sent to it after an initial power
on reset -- solution seems to be to send a `CAN' byte to empty the buffer
or to be gobbled up every time you start printing.  i haven't implemented
the reset line so don't know what affect this has...

otherwise, i think that it is a really good printer, but if you don't need
all of the nice features and are willing to take a printer that is slightly
less sturdy and powerful, then the prowritter seems to be a better deal for
the money (by the way, i would buy the fx80 again given the same choice...)
