I do not smoke. I am one of those few unfortunates that am allergic to cigarette smoke. When someone smokes around me, it always affects my allergies with sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes. If the area is enclosed like in an office, or a closed car, the smoke gives me a headache. I don't care to limit anyones freedom or vices, and I usually don't like government control. I just wish people (not just smokers) would be more conscientious about how they effect others. When it comes to chewing, I do not chew around others, unless I know they do not mind. My chewing would never hurt them physically, but I care whether it upsets them emotionally, ie, it grosses some people out. In a way, I don't favor laws against smoking, but because in practice, *most* people don't care about me, I do favor laws requiring at least some non-smoking environments. There have been situations where I could not work normally, because of smoking. When asked to smoke elsewhere, these people either didn't, or just blew the smoke the other way. Look at it this way: If someone insists on smoking near me, they hurt me by ruining my environment, which causes me physical problems. On the other hand, if I insist (by law or otherwise) that they not smoke near me, I do not ruin their environment or hurt them physically. I only cause them inconvenience. Which is fair?
