Another person I know has considerable trouble staying awake if there is a running vacuum cleaner within earshot. Anyone out there have their own personal soporiferous sound? Any comments about this (like "why")? One person's sound just doesn't do it to other people. I think that it is weird, and would like to hear other's opinions, either directly or posted. /* ---------- */ Most people will be relaxed by non-descript background noise that approaches white noise. For me, a steady ventilating fan will knock me out in very short order. Coffee has no effect on this. Another component involved in this are noises that people associate with sleep. I used to have a fish aquarium in which the bubbling filter was always on. Therefore, I always heard this sound as I went to sleep at night. Today the same sound will make me drowsy.
