Questions of energy supply are a collective concern, not an individual matter. Almost any individual company's efforts to help reduce the aggregate energy consumption are worthless, and if it costs the company money to do so -- especially relative to their competitors -- they're not likely to pay attention. It is precisely because of questions like this that I don't join in the great chorus of "isn't government evil, stupid, and incompetent." They may be wrong on any given issue, but at least the problem is being addressed in the right forum.
