WHAAAT???: ` is a pound ???
Yes, I know that on certain brain damaged keyboards the character octal 0140,
hex 60, decimal 96 prints as a pound sign, however this is merely (to use
a technical phrase) a manufacturer-added feature (i.e. balls-up).
That character is, in ASCII, and I believe ISO, a back-quote, a.k.a. grave.
