Reminds me of something I read somewhere:  A non-New Yorker, shortly after
arriving in the Big Apple, noticed that the locals were using a curious
expression:  "It'll cost a nominal egg."  Not until some time later did this
person realize that the NY-ers were actually saying "It'll cost an arm and a
leg."
