In particular, even though we have net.religion, one person who answered my original suggestion by mail suggested that "abortion is too important a topic to be ghettoized". The people who have strong feelings on the abortion issue tend to feel it's OK to spread their views in net.religion (I assume), net.politics, net.women, and probably lots of others. Since it's a multifaceted issue ("Should abortion be legal?" is one question, "Is abortion moral?" quite another) ("Are those two seperate questions" is a third) we've little hope of putting it in one larger newsgroup unless we slant it specifically for abortion. Perhaps "net.nobirth" or "net.contraception" (if only it would fit) would fill the bill, but I favor one specifically for abortion so I can choose that one to ignore.
