Can anyone tell me the etymology of the German word "dolmetschen?"
Two dictionaries enlightened me only to the extent that it is of
Turkish origin, and found its way into German in the Middle High
German period.  Anybody know anything about the (allegedly) Turkish
roots?  Any info about how it crept into German?
