Two dictionaries enlightened me only to the extent that it is of Turkish origin, and found its way into German in the Middle High German period. Anybody know anything about the (allegedly) Turkish roots? Any info about how it crept into German? Thanks a lot. John Eldridge floyd!clyde!jce Bell Labs, Whippany, NJ
