For anyone who may have an older (or younger) dog with this problem:

There are now a few vets who practice acupuncture.  Locally, one in
Corvallis (and one, I believe, in Eugene).  Had two tiny gold beads
implanted close to affected hip joints in my 12-year-old German Shepherd
recently (+ 2 needle treatments for arthritic front legs) and note about
a 30% improvement, with gradual improvement still forthcoming.

This vet (Dr. Limehouse, Corvallis) will be on 'Live At Noon' on Channel 6
on August 26th giving a demonstration of his techniques using my dog as
his patient.
