I forgot to tell you:  on the subject of pleasure, pain, and value, take a
look at I. Goldstein, "Why People Prefer Pleasure to Pain," *Philosophy*,
vol.? date? (1980 or 81 I think).  Also E.J. Bond, *Reason and Value*, 1983.
Does anyone out there read the things I suggest?
