I always put the box end in the memo holder and have never had problems.
My expierience is limited to Kodacolor and Kodachrome however.  Is it 
possible that other manufactuers (Fuji, Agfa, etc.) use more glue in their
boxes?  I don't have any experience with them and you don't say what film
you use.
