There is a story in "The Early Asimov" called, I believe, "Author! Author!" (forgive my speaking without knowing--it was something like that) which has a variant of that for a plot, with a typical Asimovian twist in that the more the author wrote about a character, the closer the character comes to achieving reality...Fun stuff. Come to think of it, that isn't exactly what you're talking about, but check the story out anyway. -------
