	Yes! Yes! Yes! The story IS "Try and Change the Past" by Fritz Leiber!
My copy of this story appears in an anthology edited by Silverberg, hence
my (characteristic) confusion.  That's what I like about the net. You can give
it the vaguest recollection of a story and it will return title, author,
publisher and whether or not it's currently in print.  Thanks also for the
other titles I will check them out and of course my most profound apologies to
Fritz Leiber.
