I have now gotten more mundane with: esh[?] where the ? is my depth level (in shells) starting with 0. If I run an 'sh', the prompt comes back as: sh[?] with the proper depth level replacing the ? This way, I always know whether or not I am in a subshell -- I escape from the editor a lot and would forget to go back. My secondary prompt is: And?
