Does that statement make me a hypocrite? You seem to assume that someone who says "I'm not gay" in an article supporting tolerance is doing so out of fear of being thought gay. An equally (more?) likely reason is the person wants to let readers know that the tolerance isn't advocated because of self-interest. (There's nothing wrong with self-interest, but a disinterested supporter seems to carry more weight convincing other disinterested people.) Kathy Wilber
