I would tend to agree with Jeff Johnson.  Based on this, I looked in 
Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary for support.  The following is an
excerpt from that entry.

sun
1 a: the luminous celestial around which the earth and other planets
revolve. . .
b: a celestial body like the sun
