Responses were few but supported each other. According to one item on the net and three replies to me, Denon has the leading edge. Its line of tables from the the DP-52F (list ~$600) to the DP-11F (list ~$200) offers a microprocessor-controlled servo-tracer tone arm that, similarly to Sony's Biotracer arm, is said to damp resonances and stabilize stylus pressure. At the midrange are the DP-35F (list $300) and the DP-45F (list $350). As the latter offers only more automation, my own choice is the 35F. I'm currently looking for a good price (< $250) on one, but Denon discounts are hard to find. I should add that the average $200 Japanese table is likely to give ample satisfaction to the budget-minded stereo shopper. One final plug from me and a couple of other net.audio readers: tape deck hunters should definitely look into Akai's new line. It gives excellent value for the money. I'm still in love with my GX-7. Someone else raved about his HX-3. --Charles decvax!allegra!cbf
