According to the service manual I got from Dodge for my 1980 Colt, and this is probably true for other front-drive cars, when you repack the front wheel bearings, you also disassemble the drive-shafts and all four of those constant-velocity (CV, or "u") joints at the same time that you pull the hubs and clean, check, and repack the bearings. The CV joint bearings have to be maintained at the same interval as the front wheel bearings. These CV joints are such a crucial and vulnerable part of the drivetrain that I want someone to do the work who is qualified, and will pay if they foul it up. In fact, I'm not all that certain that the Dodge people who did it last time actually took care of the drive-shafts. When I first went in, they said that the bearings are sealed & don't need to be repacked. Of course, they had my Japanese Dodge mixed up with the American ones, the fools. I get nervous having them work on my car (this is the Dodge dealer in Roseburg), but at least they have to take care of any problems they cause.
