I too was reluctant to buy a helmet. Then one day a friend of mine had an accident while riding her bike; she tried to go over a crack in the pavement at a too small angle, her wheel caught in the crack and she fell and hit her head. Despite the fact that she'd been going very slowly, she was concussed. She got a bad headache and *was unable to remember what she'd done that day or where she was going*. When I heard the story, I thought to myself "I'm not having any accident mess with MY brain- better get a helmet". I was damn glad I had, a month later, when I panic-stopped on a steep downhill, went over my handlebars and bounced on the top of my head. I walked away from the crash. If I hadn't been wearing my helmet I'd probably have been carried away with a sheet over my face. GET HELMETS! WEAR THEM! There are too few hackers already. Anne ("Bicyclists without helmets? Just think of it as evolution in action") Paulson ucbvax!hplabs!paulson
