I have always looked upon the term as one which was not complimentary. I never have looked upon the term as one who is a criminal. I'm sick of seeing hundreds of articles condemning the press, therefore, for all you "hackers" who don't want to take any action beyond the confines of your keyboard, here is something for you. I have composed a letter in which all you have to do is fill in your name and a few blanks. Just put a stamp on it and send it, and maybe you can influence the media. Dear ______________, *FLAME ON* I am outraged at the media usage of the term "hacker". I have been hacking since my first encounter with a computer, which, BTW, was a _______________! I am not nor ever have been a criminal. I realise (sic) that you are just an incompetant press worker who knows nothing about the joys of computers, and just how fun it is when your two bit counter overflows. :-) Look, I don't infringe on your rights by smoking, speeding, or owning a gun, why should you infringe upon mine by changing the meaning of the sacred word "hacker". That's almost as bad as changing my password from ______________ to _______________. *FLAME OFF* Good Ribbons, _______________ PS: Please send all return flames to /dev/null ___________________________________________________________________________ Please feel free to use this letter and send it to your favorite media person. -- Steve Silberberg
