The bad old state of NY deprives you of a handgun. The one thing you don't seem to realize is that it also deprived your attacker of a handgun. If you had both had guns, YOU might have been the one to end up with a bullet in YOUR head (or are you that good at quick-drawing?). I don't think that your attacker not having a gun inconvienienced you that much. I think that you could find other ways of defending yourself against a tire iron than using a gun (knives thrown at a distance work real good (of course you have to prac- tise)).
