The point I was trying to make is: Mr. Crawford (the attacker) has lived in NY for many years. Therefore, he could have applied for and received a permit to possess a handgun from the state of NY. He is now being charged with 2 felonies, and I intend being a witness if it is ever brought to trial. He is now a verified threat to society. I am a threat to no person who does not threaten me. However, the state of NY will not issue a permit to me to possess a handgun until such time as I can supply 3 character references from local residents who have known me for 3 years. (That won't happen for another 2 years.) So, finally: +--------------------------------------------------------------+ | The laws restricting possession of handguns within the state | | of NY *DO NOT ACCOMPLISH WHAT THEY SET OUT TO ACCOMPLISH,* | | and, because of their existence, innocent people were hurt. | +--------------------------------------------------------------+ So they shouldn't be on the books in the first place. ============== Karl Kleinpaste =============== ...!allegra!rocksvax!ritcv!ccieng5!ccieng2!kfk ...!seismo!rochester!ritcv!ccieng5!ccieng2!kfk P.S. Mrs. Crawford spent 5 days in the hospital.
