If you had shot this wife beater, would the situation have really been any better than it turned out? As it stands, everyone emerged alive, albeit a little knocked up. I admit it's terrible for someone to go around attacking people with tire-irons. However, I'm not one to say that it gives you free rein to blow them away. Wouldn't it have been better to have an economy size can of Mace or some other CN type gas around? Most people tend to not argue after they've been hosed down with mace. This would have disarmed him, not harmed him, and not backed him into a corner -- all of which would happen with a handgun as the weapon.
