  I have always been one for allowing people to own guns.  It is not the gun
that kills, but the person behind it.  If someone is going to commit a crime
of passion, I don't believe in most cases, that not having a gun will stop
that someone from killing.  I also believe that if only criminals have guns,
then they will have a very large feeling of security when they walk into
someones home, knowing that this law-abiding citizen that they are going to
murder/rape/rob/victimize will not be able to defend himself against a gun.

  I also believe in keeping guns away from those that have shown themselves
to be of a criminal nature..i.e. those with police records.  I also VERY
MUCH FAVOR extremely severe penalties for those that commit crimes with a
gun.  Penalties that can NOT be plea-bargained, nor dismissed by a lenient
judge.  

  I agree with laura, when she says that we are going to have to start being
strict with criminals, or else we are going to have to pay with our own lives/
safety/security/peace of mind.  We say that we don't want rapists/murderers/
and the like around, and yet we let them off on 'probation'.

  I do NOT believe in capitol punishment.  I do not believe that ANYONE has
the right to take someone else's life, except for immediate self defense, when
there is no other obvious recourse available.  For those that commit a crime
worthy of a capitol offense, lock them up, and then WELD THE DOOR!!  Killing
them is not going to bring back anyone.
