Here in Washington D.C., we have to worry about the police not
showing up until 30 minutes after the call has been placed.  What's
the response time in NYC?  Karl has every right to defend his life
with a gun.  A tire iron is a rather vicious weapon.  A single blow
from it could easily kill a man.  I suspect that a wielded tire iron
could easily be construed as "deadly force".  Thus, Karl could
*legally* kill his attacker.
