How on earth can people take such extreme stands on their system of
government?  And how can people continue to point at the USSR every time
they hear the word socialist.  In the perspective of history, all western
countries are socialist.  We have state supported social welfare and
unemployment assistance, state supported education, state supported medicine
and health care, state supported arts, state supported scientific reaserch,
state supported housing for the poor, state supported transportation systems
...

Socialism means that the SOCIETY (that means you and me and those people
standing at the bus-stop) joins together in their goverment to work for the
common good of all people.  It is the socialist view that the needs and
aspirations of people are more important than those of profit.

By the way - all you Ayn Rand ultra-right-wing elitists out there:  Think
about all the social things you enjoy in your life.  There is nothing wrong
with poeple working together for some motive other than money.
