Lines: 27 In reading the pro-gun arguments having a gun for the purpose of defending oneself and family is always the major factor. Are you pro-gun folks advocating that everyone be able to carry their weapons at all times? Are we going back to the days of the "Wild West"? (I'm trying not to be sarcastic, I'd be interested to know.) If not, what kind of circumstances are you defending yourselves from? If your guns are not on your person, seems to me the only circumstance would be when someone is forcing themselves into your home. Assuming a locked door or window provides enough delay (and noise) this is the only situation that would allow enough time to get the the weapon. All other times [Burglary, mugging, traffic conflicts, neighbors(?)] the offenders would have the "drop on you." Forced entry as far as I know is very rare crime. I'm sure alot of folks will say they don't want to take any chances whatsoever but if you feel you need protection from this rare occurrence why are handguns necessary, why won't a rifle do?
