             A friend of mine had a similar problem-- neighbor's dog
       kept raiding his garbage can & distributing  its contents over
       a vast geographical area. His solution was to conduct a 
       vigil by an upstairs window while armed with a pellet rifle
       pumped up just enough to make the point. His aim was exceptional
       and a certain very sensitive portion of the dog's anatomy 
       received a painful but not injurious message. The dog never 
       raided the garbage can again.
