Now you can find out about Boston from someone that lived near there for 20+ years. I have also lived in the Portland, Berkley and Washington DC areas. I for one like to drive in the Boston area, I find the drivers competent and skillful. You see our roads were made before the car, and they are twisty. Boston drivers are alot like european drivers. They know how to get there from here and they have little patience for tourists. When I see bumper to bumper cars going 60 MPH on a curvy four lane highway, with no median, it reminds me of herds of african antelope, its beautiful. On similar roads down here in the DC area, Maryland drivers would freak out, stand on the brakes and maybe make 25 MPH. And lord at least Boston drivers have some concept of a passing lane, to a Maryland driver going 55 in the left lane is a daring maneuver. Ever been to one of those four way stop sign intersections in California? You had better hope there is not a lot of traffic there, you might get stuck. Its like having two monks coming to a door each trying to be the most humble and waiting for the other. Only with californians they are no doubt trying to be the most mello. And talk about weather, rain makes headline in socal, and you can believe me one inch does not make front page in Boston, nor does it cause the city to grind to a halt. My first day at work in the DC area they had 6 inches and the city did grind to a halt. Air florida fell from the sky, the Metro derailed and there were near riots at each bus stop. The have little or no snow removal equipment and the snow gets packed into ice ruts within a day or two. Ever find yourself up north when a big storm hits. People don't freak out, they become very friendly, no doubt an earthquake could generate a similar feeling in those cursed with 2.5 seasons, but can you sled on a mudslide? Muggy? I have always maintained there are at most two weeks at the peak of summer where air conditioning might be necessary. Same goes for winter maybe two weeks of bitter cold. But if you have never chopped wood with a tee shirt on in 5 degree weather, you've really missed something. 8v) ;^} :-) :v] 8^| Ty (seismo!tiberio)
