actually, as Prof. Peter Schikle of the University of Southern North
Dakota at Hoople points out, the Metronome was invented by Beethoven after
a friend returned from a visit to Paris where he had seen the new subway,
and watched all the little men at work hammering away ... MetroGnomes!
