Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 21 Actually, this story belongs in net.tragedy rather than net.jokes. In the fall of 1978, in my first semester at the University of Texas at Austin, a rather bizarre incident occurred. It was settled out of court so the facts in the case were never made public, but the allegations floating around at the time were the following: during the drunken festivities following rush week, members of the fraternity Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) are alleged to have hauled a freshman male passerby in off the street, beaten him, stripped him, urinated on him, and raped him. (Needless to say, the victim, said to have been an 18-year-old from a small town in east Texas, was rather severely traumatized by the inci- dent. He withdrew from the university and is presumed to have recieved a rather handsome settlement from the fraternity. In return he didn't press charges. More's the pity...) Ever since then, Alpha Tau Omega has been known at UT as the "Gay-Tee-Oh's".
