NEWPORT, R.I. (UUCP) - This afternoon off the coast of Newport, the
Austrailia II was shot by a United States Nuclear Submarine. 
Although no one was injured seriously, the controversial new keel
of the Austrailia II was destroyed and Liberty won the seventh
and deciding race of the America's Cup series.

The Austrilians have demanded and immediate apology in response to
which, President Reagan held a news conference this afternoon.
He said the submarine was on routine military manuevers and claimed
they thought the boat was a spy sailboat.
