I of course meant "arc" wherever I said "chord".  Just a little bug
in my thought-to-English translator.

A friend mentioned a related problem he had seen, asking the odds that
the three pieces formed from a stick broken randomly in two places
would form a triangle.  There was an interesting geometric proof
in Mathematical Games a number of years ago.
