The cheapo version has no brains at all, just a bunch of switches and a two pair of quadrature signals. If you have two interrrupts available this is all you need, or if you can spare a processor to ride herd on it. Unfortunately it's only 24-pulse-per-inch (that's 10 p/cm for you limeys) but they will do a higher resolution version (probably at same price) if enough people squawk. nathan
