Stableford, a British sociologist, is one of the best creators of alien ecologies and organisms around. In "The Gates of Eden" he develops an ecology of shape-shifting animals--and puts it on a quasi-believable evolutionary basis. In an earlier series of books, the "Hooded Swan" novels, Stableford did the rare event of having a main series character who changed with his experiences. Any other Stableford fans out there? -------
