Usually, netnews is a service provided by one's school or place of work. Unless someone is already 'out', it would be quite surprising to expect them to explicitly identify themselves as gay to the net. What's more, there are varying degrees of being open about one's sexual preference--one could be frank to friends and co-workers, but might hesitate to proclaim it in a public forum like USENET. Unfortunately, such an attitude, while understandable, contributes to the impression that gays don't exist. Hence the question, "Why haven't there been more responses by gays?" I'm sure that there have been MANY responses by gays--but they haven't explicitly identified themselves as such. /Steve Dyer decvax!wivax!dyer sdyer@bbn-unix
