The responses were all favourable, but there were not too many of them. It seems that you can be relatively successfull in flying on a standby basis, the biggest problem being trying to find a Peoples Rep when you get to the airport. Recently, however, I was talking to a relative of my wife who happens to be a travel agent. She told me NEVER to fly anywhere on peoples. Here are a few of the statements she made - draw your own conclusions ! 1) The staff who work for Peoples are all paid considerably less than other airlines including the pilots - makes you kind of wonder what sort of pilot would accept such a low salary. 1 2) it is not at all clear who does the maintenance on their planes. 3) It appears that they do not pay any landing fees at Newark - all the other airlines do - if they get away with this what other regulations do they get around. 4) No travel agent that she knows will fly on Peoples or recommend you fly on them. Now remember she was not trying to sell me a flight on another airline for a larger commission - this is just what she is aware of because she's in the business. Martin Studd.
