"Hmm there is NEXUS #4, good, good. Ah, Jim. Why did you put JUDGE DREDD #3 in my box? Oh, for the 'gaze into the first of DREDD' panel, thanks. Hey, Guy, get a load of this, a comic called 'SKATEMAN.' What kind of jerk would make a comic like... Auntie Em! It's by Neal Adams!" Well, I HAD to buy it. After all, as a comic collector that started collecting in the 60's, anything by Neal Adams is almost like a religious experience. After reading the comic, I have come to the conclusion that either Neal has gone off the deep end, or I have. At the moment, I am leaning more towards Neal for that honor. The hero was in Vietnam (weren't they all?), comes back and becomes a Roller Derby king. Hookay. Then he accidentally kills his best friend in the rink and gets upset. That makes sense (sorta-kinda). Then he starts wearing this strange costume and fighting bad guys while skating, and thus becomes SKAKEMAN. He has a faithful following of street wise kids on skateboards and a good looking broad (I'm sorry, *I* never refer to women as "broads" but in comics it seems inevitable) who cares for him and will help him in his crusade. WHAT CRUSADE? HOW DID THE NEWSBOY LEGION GET RESURRECTED? WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? Some comics confuse me, but I say "OK, if you eat your veggies and are a good boy, and continue reading them, maybe you will understand what is going on." In the mean time there is enough interesting stuff going on in them, that it keeps my interest (AMERICAN FLAGG and SOMMERSET HOLMS come to mind in this category). Others I think I understand, but look forward to understanding it better (like COYOTE). This one I DON'T understand, and more over, I don't think I WANT to understand it. What I am saying is, even though it is ADAMS, maybe you should save your money on this one. "now about the JUDGE DREDD, Jim..." OZ seismo!rlgvax!oz
