My experience leads me to conclude that a microwave's utility consists of heating up left-overs (they do taste pretty good heated this way), heating bagels, heating water for one cup of coffee, melting butter for waffles, and occasionally, cooking bacon (only when speed is essential). A microwave is nice to have, but not an essential part of good eating.
