     I have never stepped in cat shit.  On the other hand, here in
Champaign I manage to step in dog shit about twice a month -- there's
a LOT of it left "laying around."  So I guess I never thought of cats
as a problem.  (And if dogs would bury their business behind the 
evergreen bushes, they wouldn't bother me either.)
