A few years back during a fit of ire over the high auto 
insurance rates I had to pay, I went to my local library
and researched the total number of licensed drivers in
California and the total dollar amount the insurance 
companies paid out in auto related claims during the same
period...dividing number of drivers into total paid out
amounted to $80.00. (Five times what I was paying).
